#tembeakenya and discover Kenya’s untamed wilderness with Bamboo Safaris. One day road trip expedition to Ngare Ndare Forest in Nanyuki on Saturday 4th March

  • Published:

Ngare Ndare Forest is a lush indigenous forest at the foothills of Mt. Kenya. It is the only indigenous forest in Kenya with an expanding canopy cover, and some of the ancient African Olive and Red Cedar trees within it are thought to be around 200 years old.

Elephants and buffalos are frequently seen here, as they make their way from Lewa Wildlife Conservancy to the rich grazing lands on the hills of Mt. Kenya.

The Azure pools glistens at the bottom of the waterfalls. The waters are a startling glacial blue, being the melt waters of Mt. Kenya. The adventurous can bathe and the intrepid can leap from the top of the waterfall.

The canopy supports a rich variety of birds and wildlife and the forest is a vital corridor that links the Lewa Wildlife Conservancy to Mount Kenya, and one which elephants have been using for centuries.

The canopy walkway is a 40 ft. high aerial bridge of wire mesh and cables meandering through the tree canopy and extending 450 Metres long. It is the only canopy walk in East Africa; the one kilometer long boardwalk provides visitors with a monkeys-eye-view of the flora and fauna below.

The walkway ends at a wooden platform 30ft. high, where you can relax and enjoy a view of the river from this elevated vantage point. Elephants and buffaloes frequently come here to drink and wallow, and one can enjoy a drink or a meal at the lofty leafy deck.

Ngare Ndare forest also hosts a huge number of bird species. They have trained and experienced guides who help visitors to spot and identify various birds within the forest.
