You don’t need an expensive gym membership to get fit. Choosing the right at-home workout equipment will maximize your exercise routine so you get the weight loss, strength training, and fat burning results you want without breaking your budget.

Working out from home is awesome, in that you are in your own space and can be as weird and ridiculous as you want to be.

If you have space in the house that’s what you need for starters to start a home workout routine. You just need to add a few tools that are not budget wrecking to get this going.


Here are some tools that you need that are not only affordable and compatible but that will elevate your home workout to a whole new level.

Yoga Mats:


Even if you are not practicing yoga or Pilates, you’ll need a yoga mat/exercise mat. An exercise mat will cushion you from a hard floor and give more support than a carpet when doing ab workouts, floor exercises, and warmup stretches.

Exercise mats are so versatile, from use as floor cushions to your feet for more stability, comfort when doing yoga or Pilates to lying on them after a stressful day or after your workout.

They also come in different colors and sizes.

Training Shoes:


The shoes that you choose to wear doing your workout session contribute a whole lot to the overall achievement of your routine. There are many brands and types of trainers that are in the market.

Experts used to stress that for a perfect training shoe foot type and pronation was key and comfort was second. But many have come to believe having comfy kicks is key to having an optimal work out.

Putting a little skipping to your workout routine is a serious calorie burner. This very easily accessible and affordable tool is not only a great addition to your routine its good for your heart health and also helps to tone your body, and who does not want a toned body!

An accessible workout tool for the whole family and one that you can put in your luggage if travel and need to work out when away from home.

Typically used for push-ups, these bars offer some advantages over performing push ups on the floor. You can do upper body exercises with push up bars that elevate the upper body, increase the exercise range of motion and elicits more muscle activity than push ups performed on the floor.

Push up bars help with exercises that work the chest, triceps, shoulders and abdominal muscles. They are relatively lightweight and portable making it easy to do workouts almost everywhere.

Stability ball:


Stability balls help with strength training. They do not only contribute to toning your abdominal muscles and giving you killer abs, they also enhance your posture and flexibility. With many people having more strength in their abdominal muscles than in their lower back, the stability ball helps builds both for an overall stronger core.

The core is the building block for other activities — like running — and working out with a stability ball prepares the body for any other physical activity you may engage in.

Medicine balls:


A great tool for building core strength movement, a medicine ball is an essential purchase. Whether you are throwing, carrying or doing abdominal exercises with it, a medicinal ball provides you with many, many options. 

Look for a SOFT medicine ball so that it is forgiving when you do exercises involving throwing or catching it. If you are not sure about weight, err on the lighter side as many medicine ball exercises emphasize speed and power.



Dumbbells are great for building muscle and sculpting your body. They come in different weight ranges and therefore it is advisable to get them in sets of different weigh ranges to accommodate for different exercises and to add up as your strength increases.

Roller wheel:


Roller wheel is an inexpensive piece of equipment that is easy to use for effective core workouts.

Start slowly with an roller wheel as you build your core muscles. The roller wheel is a perfect way to get well toned abdominal muscles.



You just have to rock cool tunes during workout. There is this power that music hold that helps get you pumped up and adds extra enthusiasm to your routine.

Make a playlist of your favorite tunes or songs that you think can help your workout be more fun.
