Female Jubilee politician discloses details of wealthy sponsor said to be funding her Sh500 million campaign.
Days later another local daily published: “High Flying Nakuru Speaker Susan Kihika's Sponsor revealed” claiming that her Sh500 million campaign was funded by a wealthy businessman named Sam Mburu.
The unverified reports also indicated that she had spent a whopping Sh5 million in a span of two days during one of her campaigns.
The daughter of veteran politician, Dickson Kihika Kimani, has finally come out to shed light on the 'Sponsor story' which gained a lot of public interest.
Speaking during an interview, Kihika revealed that the Mr Mburu, who had been branded her sponsor was actually her boyfriend.
The legislator divulged that the local daily never sought her view when publishing the story, which indicated that Mburu - a wealthy, humble, down to earth and generous man - funded her campaigns.
She opined that the newspaper only attacked her because she was a woman.
“I think the only reason the weekly newspaper would do that is because I am a woman. They don’t ask the male candidates who are their female partners. The newspaper did not seek my side to their allegations, but I wouldn’t even give it to them because my private life is my private life. I take offence with the word sponsor because that is my boyfriend; he is not a sponsor," she was quoted by eDaily.
The political science and law graduate, however, noted that she would not take any legal action against the daily highlighting that: “No, I won’t take legal action against them. Probably they did not sell as much as they had hoped. My man is supportive, nonetheless”.
Ms Kihika has been trending on twitter following the publication. Her beauty has also got Kenyans talking with many commenting on her billboards and posters erected in Nakuru County, where she is seeking to be a Senator in the August 8 Election.
Just like her father who was a bold and fearless politician, Ms Kihika believes that she will defeat her opponent in the upcoming poll.
