In 2017 we’re picking struggles and fighting the good fight of slathering layers of lip balm on your chapping dry lips just isn’t one of them. Here are some tips on how to keep your puckers slaying

  1. Moisturize before bed

This is a golden rule. Moisturizing your lips with something mild such as coconut oil, shea butter or vitamin E oil before you go to bed allows your lips the time to rejuvenate and heal the cracks.

  1. Exfoliate

Turmeric is known to help with various healing purposes and is also great for your lips. Simply mix enough turmeric with cold milk to create a paste. Moisten your lips and gently exfoliate with a tooth brush. Rinse of and add more paste, let it sit on your lips for a few minutes before rinsing and moisturizing.  You’ll be puckering up in no time.

Yes, it feels a bit extra but gently brushing your lips ensures that any dead skin forming is exfoliated. Also apply balm immediately after brushing your teeth and lips every time.

  1. Lips in motion may need lotion

It could be that the dry skin is or preventing the healing ingredients on your lip balm from reaching your lips. Rub a bit of lotion on your lips to smoothen it out, wipe it off and apply your lip balm. The results are immediate but not long lasting.

  1. Avoid matte

This might be a bit heart breaking for the fashion die-hards but matte lipstick increases the speed in which your lips dry up. Keep a simple lip balm at hand or gloss that is friendly to your sensitive lips.

  1. Check your diet

It feels like such a common solution for all cosmetic problems but chapping lips can be an indication that you are not getting enough vitamins and minerals.  A balanced diet with loads of water should keep your lips hydrated and healthy.
