Deciding what ingredients to add to your meal is most often than not, a subconscious decision as you are probably following a recipe. But have you ever wondered just how beneficial these tiny vegetables you add to your food, are to the body?

Take capsicums for instance. You may also know them as green peppers or cayenne peppers. These bell shaped fruits hold a lot of nutrients that have healing abilities and are pain relievers.

Here's eight health reasons why you need to eat more peppers.

1. Low calories

Capsicum assist in fat burning and increase of metabolism in the body. It also helps with detoxifying the body which is important for overall health. Studies have shown that capsicum also helps with stomach ulcers.

2. Better heart condition

These bell like peppers contain cayenne that helps control high cholesterol levels or artery blockage. Cayenne is a vasodilator that relaxes the blood vessels.

3. It’s a digestive

When it comes to gastrointestinal problems, capsicum will fix it. It assists with issues like flatulence, stomach upset, diarrhea and even abdominal cramps.

4. Pain reliever

Capsicums also contain capsain that prevents transmission of pain signals to the brain by blocking the sensory nerves in the affected area. Medicine with cayenne are used to treat headaches, nerve pains amongst others.

5. Prevents diabetes

Another significant benefit of cayenne is steadying the blood sugar levels in the body. Rumor has is that it can even treat type 1 diabetes!

6. Body antioxidant

They are also a great source of Vitamin C which is responsible for general health by boosting immunity and prevent scurvy.

7. Vitamin B6 and Magnesium

Speaking of vitamins, these peppers are also a rich source of magnesium and Vitamin B6. Vitamin B6 is a diuretic that helps reduce anxiety, bloating and hypertension.

8. Increases iron absorption

Vitamin C is also great for absorption of iron. Research shows that you can treat iron deficiencies by adding the amount of capsicum in your meals.
