#Githeriman 7 people that have gone viral in Kenya for unexpected reasons

They definitely put a smile across our faces

When Githeri man, Martin Kamotho, woke up on Tuesday August 8 to go perform his democratic right to his country, he had no idea that within hours he was going to be the face of numerous hilarious memes around the internet.

He suitably defines the term ‘getting famous overnight’.

Githeri man is however not the first person to have obtained ‘fame’ through some pretty unexpected reasons though.

There have been a couple of Kenyans over the years that have gone viral within social media circles and Plive.co.ke decided to take a trip down memory lane and combined a list of some of them.

1.Anne Muhonja and Wilson Mutura aka Ksh 100 couple

Anne Muhonja and Wilson Mutura made headlines late last year after they decided to hold their wedding for just 100 shillings and needless to say they kind of restored a bit of hope in love for those that had lost it in the first place.

Their story was widely shared all over the country and they obviously went viral; and their lives have never been the same.

They received a plot and a greenhouse worth Ksh 1 million shillings from Diamond Properties Merchants in Kajiado County, an all-expenses paid trip to Mombasa and to top it all off they were treated to a fully catered for Ksh. 3.5 million wedding on Valentine’s day this year.

Oh plus they are expecting their first child together.

2.Patrick Muthomi popularly known as the man that sought employment using a placard

Patrick Muthomi, went viral for seeking out a job in what was considered an ‘unconventional’ method.

He had taken to the streets last year holding up a placard that outlined his qualifications and contact details.

The 28 year old had come to Nairobi with his wife and toddler in order to further his career but things didn’t turn out so well for him as a year and a half plus 200 job applications after he still hadn’t gotten a good job.

His search clearly came to an end after he advertised himself along Muthaiga Road because he managed to secure a job with Chandaria Industries in Ruaraka as an accountant.

3.Bonoko Deh

Ghetto Radio presenter, James Kang’ethe, popularly known as Bonoko, became famous after a video of him explaining how a police officer killed an innocent man went viral.

His stage name, Bonoko, even originated from the incident; Bonoko is a slang word for a fake gun.

His video also helped him secure a job with Ghetto radio.

4.Jane Anyango Adika famously known as the “Serikali Saidia” woman

She became famous after she cried out to the government for assistance after floods destroyed her property and she was unable to trace her children.

She was featured in a Safaricom commercial and was also appointed as the flood preparedness ambassador under the department of Special Programmes.

5."Kifi kifi" eye witness

An eyewitness from Murang’a, Alice Wambui, became famous for saying “kifi kifi” instead of “piki piki” while describing how a policeman was being escorted to the police station by the public for trying to force a woman to get on a motorcycle.

She even got featured in and ad after that.

6.Joseph Mburu aka Jose the witnesser

Joseph Mburu, otherwise known as Jose the witnesser, is famously known for the popular phrase “nikama ndrama nikam vindeo”.

He managed to get featured on a Safaricom ad.

Morris Mwenda otherwise known as the eloquent street boy

He became famous after a video of him speaking so eloquently went viral.

In his video Mwenda touched on the issues that street families face and on marginalization within the country.

7.Martin Kamotho aka Githeri man

And last but certainly not the least, Githeri man.

Githeri man instantly became an internet sensation after a photo of him eating githeri while queuing at his polling station on Election Day went viral.

Despite the tension around the presidential results, Martin Kamotho’s photo definitely helped ease it up.

Safaricom has gifted Martin Kimotho with two Samsung S8 phones and one Tecno Camon. Bonfire Adventures has also hinted at providing a trip for him.
